We can’t agree more- and as the sea perches close by, a hidden gem sticks it’s rustic head out atop the wash of blooming Canola fields. We can’t help but fall in love with this place, too. And among the legends of Elvis Presley, we have our own legend and owner of a must-visit spot, Evita se Parron. This quaint little restaurant and theatre is just an absolute delight and you absolutely do not want to mis out on this experience. After filling up and chatting to locals about how they intricately bundle the lily’s that grow wildly next to the road- you can head off to see the magnificent blossoms on your own! There is something about a sleepy town like Darling that makes you want to slow down, take in the fresh air and ponder. Perhaps about the beauty of something as delicate as a flower, a tiny organism that shouts out to be noticed and makes a loud noise in the picture of your life but can easily be snuffed by a cold night or a clumsy cow. Yet it still persists through the harsh soil of the African ground only to dance and seduce the passers-by that are lucky enough to take it all in.

Darling is a must-see on a trip up the coast with wine farms and breweries renowned for their respective brews. One of our absolute favourites and a must-visit is Groote Post, it’s a historic 18th Century Farm that offers wine tasting, farm drives, picnics, nature walks, lunch and the loving family atmosphere is just the best!! As they say, only fools rush (in) and with Darling a mere hour’s drive from Cape Town’s City Centre, the change of pace is even more noticeable. Honestly, we wouldn’t want it any other way! So take a slow drive up and prepare to enjoy Darling, the way nature intended.
